How to Report a Competitor's Fake Google Listing (Redressal Form Guide)

If a competitor is ranking with a fake Google listing — a lead-gen front with a fake address, keyword-stuffed name, or a business that doesn’t really exist at that location — they’re taking customers that should be yours, and it violates Google’s guidelines. You can report it. Here’s how the redressal process works.

What counts as a fake or non-compliant listing

  • Fake addresses: a virtual office, a UPS box, or a residential address used to appear in an area where the business isn’t.
  • Keyword-stuffed names: “Best Emergency Plumber Austin 24/7” instead of the real business name.
  • Lead-gen fronts: listings that aren’t a real business at that location but exist to capture and sell leads.
  • Multiple listings for the same business gaming the map (duplicates).
  • Ineligible business models claiming a physical presence they don’t have.

Two ways to report

1. Suggest an edit (quick)

On the listing in Google Maps, click the three dots or “Suggest an edit,” then flag the problem (wrong name, doesn’t exist here, etc.). Fast, but often low-impact on its own.

2. The Business Redressal Complaint Form (stronger)

  1. Open Google’s Business Redressal Complaint Form — the official channel for reporting guideline-violating listings.
  2. Provide specifics and evidence: the offending listing URL, exactly which guideline it breaks, and proof (photos showing no business at the address, screenshots of the stuffed name, etc.).
  3. Report multiple violations together if a competitor has several fake listings.
  4. Submit and track; follow up if you get no action.

Tips for a report that works

  • Be factual and specific — vague “this is fake” reports get ignored.
  • Attach real evidence.
  • Cite the exact guideline violated.
  • Persistence helps; a single report may not trigger action, but a well-documented case does.

Fight back the durable way: out-rank them legitimately

Reporting fakes helps, but Google is slow and inconsistent. The reliable long game is to be so strong legitimately that fake listings can’t compete — a fully optimized profile and a dominant review lead.
