Search engines read your page as text, but structured data hands them the facts directly: this is the name, this is the postal address, these are the hours, here is the phone number and the coordinates. That precision is what lets Google build a knowledge panel, show your hours in the local pack, and connect your website to your Google Business Profile with confidence. Increasingly it also matters for AI answers — assistants that describe local businesses lean on clean, machine-readable data, and LocalBusiness JSON-LD is the cleanest signal you can give them.
How to use the generator
- • Choose the most specific type. Dentist beats MedicalBusiness; Plumber beats HomeAndConstructionBusiness.
- • Fill the address as separate fields. The tool emits a proper PostalAddress, not a single string — that’s what validators expect.
- • Add hours and coordinates. The schedule editor turns each open day into an OpeningHoursSpecification; latitude and longitude add a GeoCoordinates block.
- • List profiles and areas served. Social and directory URLs go in sameAs; the towns you serve go in areaServed.
Reading the validation
The panel under the code separates hard errors from recommendations. A red dot means the markup is invalid or incomplete in a way that will fail — most often a missing name. A yellow triangle is a recommendation: an address, phone, hours or geo you could add to make the entity richer. You can copy or download once the required fields are satisfied, then confirm it in Google’s Rich Results Test before you ship.
After you add the markup
Paste the snippet into the head of your homepage or contact page and keep the facts identical to your Google Business Profile — mismatched name, address or phone is one of the most common local-SEO problems. If you also want review stars, use the review schema generator, and for individual service pages use the Service schema generator.
Limitations
Structured data describes your page — it doesn’t change how good the page is, and adding markup never guarantees a rich result. Google decides when to show enhancements, and it will only trust markup that matches what a visitor actually sees. Keep the schema honest and in sync with the visible content.
Frequently asked questions
- What is LocalBusiness schema and why does it matter?
- LocalBusiness schema is structured data (JSON-LD) that tells Google and other search engines the facts about your business — name, address, phone, hours, location and price range — in a format they can read precisely. It helps you qualify for rich results, feeds the knowledge panel, and gives AI assistants clean data to quote when they describe you.
- Which LocalBusiness type should I choose?
- Pick the most specific type that fits — Dentist, Plumber, Restaurant, HairSalon and so on. The more specific the type, the better search engines understand you. If nothing fits closely, fall back to the generic LocalBusiness.
- Do I need to include an address and opening hours?
- Address is strongly recommended and should be a full PostalAddress, not a single string. Opening hours, geo coordinates and telephone are recommended too — they make your markup far more useful for local results. The generator flags anything important that’s missing.
- Can I add my star rating here?
- Not in this tool. Google only shows review rich snippets when the rating is for the page’s content and is visible on the page — self-serving ratings about your own business are ignored. Use the review schema generator for review markup where genuine, visible reviews exist.
- Is this schema generator free?
- Yes — completely free, no account, no credit card. Everything is built in your browser; nothing you type is uploaded.
