LocalBusiness Schema Markup: Copy-Paste Code for Service Companies

LocalBusiness schema is structured data that spells out your business — name, address, phone, hours, rating — in a format search engines and AI assistants read directly. It’s one of the clearest signals you can send about who you are and where you operate, and it’s frequently missing. Here’s copy-paste-ready guidance for service companies.

What LocalBusiness schema does

Schema (JSON-LD) is code you add to your website that describes your business in a machine-readable way. Instead of hoping Google and AI infer your details from page text, you state them explicitly. This helps you qualify for rich results, strengthens your entity in Google’s Knowledge Graph, and makes you easier for AI to understand and cite — see entity SEO.

The core LocalBusiness markup

A basic block looks like this (paste it in your page’s <head>, filled with your real details):

<script type="application/ld+json">
{
  "@context": "https://schema.org",
  "@type": "LocalBusiness",
  "name": "Acme Plumbing",
  "url": "https://acmeplumbing.com",
  "telephone": "+1-555-123-4567",
  "address": {
    "@type": "PostalAddress",
    "streetAddress": "123 Main St",
    "addressLocality": "Austin",
    "addressRegion": "TX",
    "postalCode": "78701",
    "addressCountry": "US"
  },
  "openingHours": "Mo-Fr 08:00-18:00"
}
</script>

Use the most specific type for your business (e.g. Plumber, Dentist, Restaurant) instead of the generic LocalBusiness where one exists.

Don’t hand-code it — generate it

Getting the JSON exactly right (and valid) is fiddly. Our free schema generator builds valid LocalBusiness and AggregateRating markup from a simple form — copy, paste, done.

Add your rating (carefully)

You can include aggregateRating to show your star rating — but only mark up a rating that’s genuinely visible to users on that page, per Google’s rules. Reviews mark-up is powerful for rich results — see review schema and AggregateRating.

Validate it

After adding schema, test it with Google’s Rich Results Test to confirm it’s valid and eligible. Invalid markup can be ignored or, worse, suppress your rich results.

Where it fits

Schema is a foundational on-page signal for local SEO and AI visibility alike — one item on the local SEO ranking factors and a key way to get understood by AI. But structure is only half the story; reviews are the bigger signal — and Tailwind grows those automatically (how it works).
