Why put reviews on your website at all
Your Google reviews are your best sales tool, but a visitor on your site shouldn’t have to leave to find them. Reviews on-page lift conversion right where the decision happens, and — done correctly — can also help you earn star ratings in search results (trust signals).
The three approaches
1. Review widget (a live embed)
What it is: a small snippet that pulls your real reviews and displays them live on your site, updating automatically as new ones come in.
- Pros: always fresh, verifiable (real reviews from real sources), looks professional, zero manual upkeep.
- Cons: depends on a tool to power it.
- Best for: almost everyone — this is the default choice.
2. Review schema (structured data)
What it is: code (JSON-LD) that tells Google about your reviews/ratings, which can surface star ratings in search results.
- Pros: can earn eye-catching star rich results; helps SEO.
- Cons: must follow Google’s guidelines (mark up genuine, on-page reviews — don’t fake it); it’s a signal, not a display on its own.
- Best for: pairing with a widget — display for humans, schema for Google (review schema).
3. Screenshots
What it is: pasting images of reviews.
- Pros: dead simple.
- Cons: static (goes stale), unverifiable (looks cherry-picked), not readable by search engines, accessibility issues (ADA).
- Best for: a last resort only.
The recommended setup
- Use a live widget to display fresh reviews on your homepage, service pages, and testimonials page (testimonial pages).
- Add review schema on eligible pages to pursue star rich results — following Google’s rules.
- Skip screenshots unless you truly have no alternative.
