The Post-Job Quality Checklist Every Tech Should Run Before Leaving

Why a completion checklist matters

Techs are focused on the fix; the finishing details (cleanup, testing, explaining, asking for the review) are easy to skip when they’re tired and eyeing the next job. A checklist makes the standard consistent regardless of who’s on site — protecting your reputation and your first-time fix rate (FTFR).

The post-job completion checklist

1. Verify the work

• Test that the repair/install actually works.
• Check for anything else obvious that needs attention (and note it).
• Confirm nothing was left incomplete.

2. Clean up

• Remove all debris, old parts, and packaging.
• Leave the area as clean as (or cleaner than) you found it.
• Protect the customer’s property — no scuffs, no mess.

3. Walk the customer through it

• Explain what you did in plain language.
• Show them the result and how to use/maintain it.
• Cover the warranty and what to do if anything comes up (warranty policy).

4. Handle the paperwork

• Complete the invoice/work order and get sign-off (e-signature).
• Collect payment or confirm terms.
• Note anything for follow-up (a quote for additional work, a maintenance plan offer).

5. Ask for the review

• “If you’re happy with the work, a quick Google review would mean a lot” — while satisfaction is highest.
• Hand over a card with a QR code or send the request by text.

How to make it stick

1. Put it in your FSM or on a laminated card in every truck.
2. Make review-asking a required step, not optional.
3. Reinforce it in your daily huddle and coach on misses.
4. Tie it to your quality standard (communication SOP).
