Facebook Recommendations: How to Turn Them On and Get More

Facebook Recommendations (Facebook’s version of reviews) still send real leads, especially for businesses whose customers live on Facebook — restaurants, home services, salons, and community-focused shops. They also feed social proof to a huge audience. Here’s how to turn them on, get more, and manage them.

Reviews vs. Recommendations

Facebook replaced its old star ratings with Recommendations: people tap “Yes” or “No” and write why. Your Page shows an overall recommendation percentage and count. Functionally it’s still word-of-mouth social proof — and it appears right where your community already spends time.

How to turn Recommendations on

  1. Go to your Facebook Page Settings → Templates and Tabs (or Page setup).
  2. Make sure the Reviews / Recommendations tab is enabled and visible.
  3. Confirm your Page category supports Recommendations (most local business categories do).

Once on, anyone can leave a recommendation, and it shows on your Page and can surface in friends’ feeds.

How to get more

  • Ask your community. Facebook is more relaxed than Yelp about this — a friendly post inviting recommendations is fine.
  • Share great ones. Reposting a customer recommendation (with permission) prompts others.
  • Link to your Page in follow-ups for customers who prefer Facebook to Google.
  • Stay active. Pages that post and engage get more recommendations.

Responding to recommendations

Reply to both positive and negative recommendations, just like any review. A warm thank-you on the good ones and a calm, solution-focused reply on the bad ones — the framework is the same everywhere. See responding to positive reviews and negative reviews.

How Facebook fits your strategy

Google is still the priority for search and map visibility, but Facebook Recommendations are valuable social proof and a second channel for customers who don’t use Google reviews. The smart play is to keep both active without doubling your workload. Tailwind monitors Facebook alongside Google, Yelp, and the rest so every recommendation lands in one inbox — see review monitoring and collection.
